This will be the first one I will not attend. Last year was when I decided to do my fade - I was shocked that the focus on the FDS/GB. I was told it was a new outline, but by then I was not serving as an elder and had no clue if it was true or just the a bad job by an elder who is was a self appointed R&F basher.

There was no confusion at all: First, look at the context: Jesus words in Matthew 24 were in response to three distinct, but connected questions posed at 24:3. I have always (even when I was an elder) personally held the belief that the generation mentioned in 24:34 was the 1st cent response to the 1st question posed in 24:3. I could never see how this could have a future application. After Jesus mentioned the destruction of the then Jewish systems at 24:2, 24:34 was fulfilled in 70 AD and so has no application today in anyone's life. I always have personally held and will continue to hold that understanding.
Jesus used "this" to refer to the generation in the present tense, if he was speaking of a future generation he would have used "there will be a generation that will not pass away" similar to other wording that pointed forward to great wars, upheaval, etc. Given that Jesus was a perfect man and understood our foibles, he would have been clear on helping his apostles to understand what he was saying. The prophecies when read with present and future tense make for easy reading.
The utilization of the “generation” by the WTBS was simply a mechanism to create two distinct classes, establish a hierarchy and then a controlling mechanism over rank and file. Jesus got it right, they got it wrong.

I have not attended any meetings for three months but recently I was struck by a strange recollection of something common to most meetings I attended. At every meeting, regardess of the time of day, frame of mind, secular workload, etc, I would feel I was being lulled into a numbing sleep. It was not that the material was boring to me (I have attended many boring secular conferences and NEVER experienced the strange effect that a meeting had on me). It was not a feeling of daydreaming or dozing off - more that there was a cerebral disconnect and reruting taking place. It go to the point that I was aware of my surroundings but clearly something had taken root in my subconscious. I have never had similar numbing feeling since not going to meetings. I do not think this is deliberate (it is illegal to use outside a clinical setting) on behalf of the WTBS but I think the underlying effect is still the same. let me explain.
I started reading about conversational language patterns and the power it can yeild. While hypnosis is all about altering your states of consciousness, hypnotic language patterning (HLP) is about how you can alter states of consciousness through the use of language. Think of a typical meeting and note the outcomes of HLP:
- Learning hypnotic language patterns is about understanding how this process happens, how you can induce it in others at will and how you can use this to get them to where you want them to go.
- It is a way of bypassing objections and focusing on the real heart of the matter.
- One of the most common uses of hypnotic language patterns is to access specific emotions from the past and attach them to situations, experiences and things in the present or the future.
- Speak in a way that draws people in until they are hanging on every word you say.
- Capture and lead the imagination to the exact thoughts you want a person to think about.
- A sales person might want to bypass the usual sticking points like price and get you to access the joys of owning the product.
- A manager might want use this to get their team to focus on getting great results rather than their current problems.
- A parent might get their children to connect the fun and excitement of going out to play with doing homework.
- A teacher or trainer might use HLP Persuasion skills to ramp up the desire to learn the skills as a route to manage the amount of concentration and work involved in getting there.
If you think of the meetings are they really different? The midweek meeting covers a publication with the same message in different shades, the TMS covers the same points every week and the overseer rarely covers the points any differently from the previous week. The SM is a rehash of old topics in new forms. Sunday you get the same talks given over and over. While there is well over a hundred outlines, the topics can be easily categorized into handful of main points - then the WT is never really different. It is all Hypnotic Language Patterning. Look it up and see the similarities.

by Terry inthe doctrines of jehovah's witnesses are not original.. if they are not original and originating from their "faithful and discreet slave" class of anointed "prophets"--then they must be 2nd hand from other sources.. this would at once disprove the proprietary claims of special relationship with god as his mouthpiece.where did their ideas, doctrines, chronologies and reasonings find their source?
was it the "anointed" slave or was it from earlier failed speculators who had polished a messege that got people worked up into a fervor?.

Good points Terry, I read with interest " Observations Upon the Prophecies of Daniel and the Apocalypse of St. John" By Sir Isaac Newton. The Daniel and Revelation books by Russell and WTBS bear remarkable similarities to Sir Isssac Newton's work. Given that Sir Issac Newton was a gifted mathemetician, physist and a recognized expert in Latin and Greek I would trust his observations over some hack who simply picks up were others leave off.
I alwaye believed that the WTBS was inspired in their wrtings. Now I know different.

The reporting of field service time
by lepermessiah inwere any of you really bothered/still bothered by the practice of field service reporting?.
there was an old post on here that got me thinking how the practice got started.. instead of simply being a tool to monitor the progress of the faith, or to see if the work was done "throughout the earth", it appears to me that it was just a tool used to keep the presses rolling and to see how much literature to produce - along with controlling the rank and file.
the average jw gives it no thought, its just another "blessing" from the organization when you hear the monthly reports, etc.. the organization is so statistics-driven that they make jesus out to be a ceo with people who need to meet their sales quotas.i'm sure he really wouldnt care if peter and andrew got 20 hours one month and john got 25. wait, maybe thats why john was "beloved" .

I always found this aspect troublesome - after all Jehovah reads hearts correct? See our motives? bock recommendations if somethingwas not right? I recall as a young elder that I stated that if Jehovah's holy spririt appoints MS & Elders that what part do we really play? If the spirit could controlled the entire universe then it would control who or who was not appointed and our comments would be irrelevant because we cannot see hearts. I was quickly put in place.
I remember the discussions on potential recommendations coming down to appointing the bum washers without question and finding reasons to not recommend the others. If a brother had low hours that was the reason, when he brought his hours up - elders questioned when he was out to get such him hours - they imputed wrong motives - if the RV's and Mags were low they used that. They began establishing rules such as Aux Poineering at least once a year, if he was oyun why is he not a pioneer? I repeatedly stated that the requirements found in Timothy and Titus were not that restrictive - why should we?

It did happen in Alberta. Stiff's (Still in Family) went on Saturday, but not all circuits invited. Given the lack of emotion/eagerness to share the love on my Stiff's faces I take it nothing much was revealed and that it was another waste of time. Shifting the printing to Canada from the US is a tax dodge - thats the true light getting brighter on this topic.

Active and/or Witnesses in good standing with the congregation: What brings you here?
by feenx ina question was posed on another thread whether or not those of us on this board who are no longer a part of the organization should be mindful of our words on this board so as not to upset any active witnesses.
there are some, including myself, that feel there aren't really any active jw's on here.
those who are still in the organization that post here are usually looking to leave, or seeking opinions on how to handle fading away.. i would be very interested, with complete respect, hearing something from any active witness as to what draws them to this site.

Their tactics cannot be that good. Afterall, the KGB infiltrated the Cong's in Russia during the USSR era and were right under their noses - even became CO's according to a WT article a few years back. You can guarantee that Vladimir Putin has retooled that technique. I recall drive bys and walk bys by certain elders and CO's - now that I look back - what a joke.
